Chemmeen Puttu / Prawns Puttu Recipe

Puttu is a traditional breakfast dishof kerala. We can convert its taste to different varieties either spicy or non spicy. Here we prepare prawns puttu by adding  prawn masala which gives a spicy as well as seafood taste to puttu. We can do it with any masala to get varieties of puttu.


  1. Puttu powder: 2 cup
  2. Prawns: 100 g
  3. Chilly powder: 2 tsp
  4. Corriander powder: 1 tsp
  5. Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp
  6. Onion: 2
  7. Green chilly: 2
  8. Garlic paste: 1 tsp
  9. Ginger paste: 1/2 tsp
  10. Corriander leaves: 1 tbs
  11. Curry leaves: little
  12. Oil : little
  13. Salt: to taste


  • Fry prawns with 1 tsp chilly powder, 1/2 tsp corriander powder, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and salt.
  • After frying crush it and keep aside.
  • In the same pan where we fried prawns, saute onion, then add ginger- garlic paste, chopped green chilly.
  • Saute it for sometime and add remaining spice powders .
  • Give a mix on it and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Then add corriander and curry leaves, cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Add crushed prawns over masala and mix well.
  • Keep cooking for 2-3 minutes and turn off the flame.
  • Wet the puttu powder with little salt water as we do for usual puttu preparation.
  • Cook puttu as usual, by adding prawn masala in between instead of grated coconut.

Delicious Prawn puttu is ready . It requires no more gravy or side dish to consume. Give a try on it.
