Jackfruit-Prawns/Chemmeen-Chakka Puzhukk

Jackfruit-prawns or Chemmeen-Chakka Puzhukk is a delicious preparation of jackfruit with a combination of prawns. You can also add clams instead of prawns. It's an awesome recipe that tastes yummy to eat as itself or with rice. It's jackfruit season, give a try on this yummy and easy recipe.

  1. Raw jackfruit: 1/2 of 1 medium
  2. Coconut: 1/2 of 1
  3. Red chilly: 3 or 4
  4. Cumin seeds: 1/2 tsp
  5. Garlic : 2-3 cloves
  6. Prawns: 20-25
  7. Turmeric powder: 3/4 tsp
  8. Curry leaves: 2 strings
  9. Mustard seeds: 1/2 tsp
  10. Salt: to taste
  11. Oil: 1 tsp
  • Clean jackfruit cloves and remove it's seeds.
  • Also remove the shell of jackfruit seeds, cut into 3 or 4 pieces.
  • Cook jackfruit cloves and seeds along with turmeric powder and salt till it is soft and mashy by adding some water.
  • Grind grated coconut, red chillies, cumin seeds with little water.
  • When jackfruit and seeds are cooked well, mash it little with the back of a laddle.
  • Pour the ground coconut mix to this, mix well and boil it.
  • Clean the prawns and add while boiling.
  • Add salt if required.
  • Cook for 5-10 minutes or till everything combines well. If it's too watery, cook till it thickens.
  • Heat a small pan with oil and sputter mustard seeds, then curry leaves followed by crushed garlic.
  • Mix this mixture with Jackfruit-Prawns Puzhukk for seasoning , combine well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Delicious Jackfruit-Prawns or Chemmeen-Chakka Puzhukk is ready, serve hot.
